As one of our signature Cover FX solutions, we knew we had our work cut out for us when we decided to give this cream-based foundation formula a reboot last year. How could we keep all the long-wearing, full-coverage benefits, while adding some well-deserved skin benefits? (We know, messing with perfection is a tall order: but when it comes to skin, nothing is off-limits.)

 

The result? This new and improved formula is more moisturizing, more nourishing, and way more comfortable for your skin.

 

What’s Inside…

 

When our development team revisited Total Cover Cream back in 2022, the goal was to tackle the number one complaint about the original formula: It was just too drying. We knew our customers loved the long-wearing coverage and matte finish, but it wasn’t a great solution for those who had dry skin to begin with.

 

So, we turned to some trusty skin-friendly emollients to help add that level of comfort and moisture for all-day wear. That included some naturally derived oils that proved wonderful (and hydrating) for all skin types.

 

Wait…Oil on Blemish-Prone Skin?

 

Guilty as charged, we’re recommending those with blemish-prone skin use a product with oil in it. But let us explain…

 

The primary emollient in Total Cover Cream is Sunflower Seed Oil, which is a very unique ingredient in both cosmetics and skincare. Oils don’t have the best reputation in the world of ingredients. And it’s easy to assume.

 

For one thing, Sunflower Seed Oil is incredibly lightweight, which means it can help to weightlessly moisturize skin without feeling heavy. It’s also rich in nutrients and antioxidants – the compounds that help your skin fight off pollution and stress, all known triggers for signs of aging. It can even help soothe irritation and redness too.

 

Another important thing to know: Sunflower Seed Oil is naturally non-comedogenic. That means it’s not known to clog pores and exacerbate breakout-prone skin.

 

Did we mention it adds just a subtle touch of glow? Rather than the truly matte – and often flat – finish you may recall, this revamped formula leaves skin looking more soft and natural. That means, it looks like your skin on a really, really good day.

 

What else will you find? We kept additional skin-friendly antioxidants like Vitamin E, which is an absolute powerhouse ingredient for all skin types. We also added natural Squalane to help lock in moisture.

How to Apply Full Coverage Foundation

 

Once you’ve found your ideal Total Cover Cream shade, you should know how to make the most of this fan-favorite foundation. Before you even think about applying Total Cover Cream, make sure your skin is in check. Clean, hydrated, and sun-protected skin is always key, no matter what makeup products you're applying. Finish up your daily AM skincare routine as a first step – and remember, SPF is a must-have, anytime of year.

 

Next up, our experts always recommend prepping with a primer. For one thing, it creates a longer-lasting base for your makeup to hold onto, and further, it can also help blur and smooth the look of fine lines and pores with makeup on top. Those with oily skin or mature skin may want to start with our Blurring Primer. Now that you’re prepped, it’s time to apply your foundation. Use the included sponge to dab the cream onto your face, starting at the center of your face and working outward towards the edges and hairline. Then blend to a seamless finish using the sponge or a blending brush.

 

Need extra help? This formula is totally buildable, so you can add more as needed without worrying about caking. Focus additional product on areas of redness, blemishes, dark circles, or wherever your trouble spots are.

 

For serious coverage, you can also add our seamless Skin Discovered Longwear Concealer for the fullest of full coverage. Our experts recommend focusing it on the under eye area if you struggle with dark circles, or to tone down any additional redness or discoloration.
